Questions to ask when kitchen shopping

Whether you are looking to solve the age old problem of inadequate storage or are looking to bring a much need style boost to your kitchen, choosing a new kitchen can be exciting but daunting too. As with any major purchase there is a lot to think about but planning ahead will pay dividends in the long run. Here are some useful questions to ask when buying a kitchen.

To ask yourself (and family)

What's my style

What’s my style?

Do you like clean lines and minimal clutter? Do you prefer a farmhouse feel? Maybe you are looking for a kitchen that suits your style of property? If you can’t decide (or agree) try creating a mood board, simply take cuttings from magazines, brochures, even old photographs, you’ll be surprised at how quickly a colour palette and look emerges.

What’s my budget?

What’s my budget?

Whatever your budget choose the very best cabinets and drawers you can afford. By choosing quality materials your kitchen will last longer and look better over the years. When budgeting don’t forget to include the cost for installation, lighting, appliances and other accessories.

Once you are clear on what you want and can afford you are ready to go shopping!

What storage solutions do I need?

What storage solutions do I need?

By planning ahead and thinking about how you will use your new kitchen you can add a range of smart storage solutions to your design that not only help save space but also help organise the kitchen more efficiently.

Here are some questions to ask your kitchen supplier:

What is the guarantee on my chosen kitchen?

A quality kitchen should last at least 10 years so look for a kitchen made from quality materials that feels robust. Your kitchen supplier should explain the guarantee and what it covers.

Is free planning and design offered?

You want to see what your chosen kitchen will look like so planning and design is essential to help you visualise things. Use this session to work out the optimum layout for you, if you don’t like something, for example the location of drawers, ask them to be moved.

Is a free survey offered?

Kitchens are designed and fitted to the millimetre so it is essential that measurements are exact. Your kitchen supplier should undertake a survey to re-do any measurements and check the location of utilities etc.

What else do I need?

Ensure you understand what is included within your price. Door furniture, lights and appliances all help create the kitchen you want but need to be added onto the price of the kitchen.

What do I need to do to prepare?

Depending on the kitchen ordered it will be delivered either flat packed or ready assembled. In both cases a suitable storage space will need to found to house them until installation begins. A top tip is to arrange for installation to take place soon after delivery.

What after sales is included?

A new kitchen represents a significant investment into your home and you need to be sure that should anything go wrong you can trust your supplier to put things right.
